Theme : Unlocking the value of unconventional gas                   18 November 2011,
Venue : Hilton, Sahar Airport Road,
                  Mumbai, India

The rise in exploration of unconventional gas is reshaping the natural gas industry. The 2nd India Unconventional Gas Conference (IUGF) 2011, to be held in November in Mumbai, India will focus on the vital question that arises: Is the unconventional gas the answer to Asia’s growing energy demand? India requiring more energy sources to sustain its rapid pace of development, Shale gas / CBM will play an important role as one of the prime energy sources.

IUGF 2011 will set the stage for discussion on the technical, environmental, financial and regulatory issues affecting CBM and Shale Gas development in India & the Asia Pacific region. The forum will be the best place to network with industry leaders, regulators and government officials from Asia- Pacific and the world. Delegates attending will gain in-depth knowledge about the new technologies along with the current technologies that are in use today. The forum will discuss the challenges, opportunities and developments in the shale gas and the CBM industry around the globe. It will also focus on the new resource plays, best practices, cost control, financing, regulation, the environment, and its impact on the gas market.

It is estimated that the Asia’s coal bed methane reserves are approximately 2,100 trillion cubic feet of which most of this is largely untapped. With the region’s demand for gas growing annually by about 2%, has seen the rise of the CBM sector. Over the past 5 years the market capitalization of independent CBM operators has seen a sharp rise from $100M in 2002 to over $2 billion.

The EIA's Annual Energy Outlook 2010 estimates that the total domestic natural gas production will grow from the current 20.6 trillion cubic feet to 23.3 trillion cubic feet in 2035. With advancements in the technology developments and rising natural gas prices, gas production from shale formations is estimated to grow to 6 trillion cubic feet in 2035 offsetting declines in other production. In 2035, shale gas is estimated to provide 24 percent of the natural gas consumed in the United States, up from just 6 percent in 2008. The first commercial well for Shale gas was drilled in New York in the late 1820's.

Shale gas exploration needs clarity on whether shale gas is a commercially viable resource. This shows outlining what data is available and what data is still needed to predict the future of shale gas business. Combined with governments talking about how policy, regulatory and land use issues will affect the exploration of shale gas in these regions, this forum will help companies to define how they can gain entry and move forward in different regions.

Leading service companies in the field will deliver innovative tools & techniques for the exploration and production processes of shale gas, including cost-optimization of drilling and completion.

Unconventional gases have become a great asset due the fact that it burns cleaner than natural gas. Coal Bed Methane is becoming increasingly important and now a valuable contributor to the world’s energy portfolio.

Bringing government and industry together from India and beyond, this is the premier forum to focus purely on strategies and solutions for expanding global shale gas areas.

What can governments do to encourage the development of shale gas in their own countries? is the biggest question asked today.

  • Given the environmental and regulatory barriers-to-entry faced in some regions? How can investment in the expensive E+P process be encouraged.
  • Given the fact that the current low price of gas, How can shale gas production become economically viable in different regions?

Get a balanced assessment of well-researched topics chosen by the leading industry experts, the delegates will get to:

  • hear from high-level decision-makers from the Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India.
  • hear about financing opportunities, expertise and the latest technologies available to help the market development in India.
  • learn about the emerging gas markets, their challenges and success in other countries
  • network and explore business prospects amongst service and technology providers from CBM industry in India and Asia Pacific.
  • discover the Indian & international shale gas industry
  • gain an understanding of the technology that will expand shale gas business worldwide
  • See the potential of the Indian shale gas market
  • Meet the international experts and players in this new field
  • Put your shale gas strategy in to action for lucrative gain

The conference will also discuss issues including

  • Geology/Geophysics
  • Petrophysics / Geochemistry
  • Simulation / Modelling
  • Microseismic
  • Reservoir Engineering
  • Environmental/Economics
  • Well Construction
  • Well Stimulation

IUGF 2011also offers a variety of sponsorship opportunities that will fit your marketing and business–to-business needs.

  • Receive value exposure among key industry decision-makers.
  • Enhance your image within a highly targeted, niche market.
  • Reach key industry players in an environment specifically designed to foster understanding and support the transfer of knowledge.

With India becoming the first country outside North America & Canada to find Shale Gas, IUGF 2011 will be the best platform to identify the challenges of shale gas production worldwide, in terms of strategies and technology, regulatory and environmental barriers which will help to bring this new resource to market at this crucial time, to meet the growing energy demands of respective countries.
